Driving home to Portage Lake, delivered a serious case of déjà vu for me. Every time we've visited home over the years, it was always via a flight to MSP, rental car, and 4 hour drive north. This time, the drive felt much different - all of us in the Truck (including Sandie!) - it felt like a real homecoming!
Once we pulled onto Blackmarr Rd, the 5th wheel felt a little too big for the driveway, but after a few tries it fit perfectly in front of the house, even leaving a little room for others to park.
Almost immediately, we agreed that one week at Grandma Judy's wasn't enough. We were TIRED from traveling over the past week, and staying a little longer sounded great. We also realized that for once in our crazy life we actually had the flexibility to adjust our schedule as we saw fit, without having to return on a deadline for work or school.
The two weeks spent at Grandma's was rejuvenating for all of us. The boys loved spending time playing basketball on Dad's old hoop, riding bikes, going through Uncle Matt's old football cards, and catching up with their friends back home with steady access to Wifi. One of the highlights for the family was riding bikes along the Pike Bay loop trail with Grandma Judy and Grandpa Jerry. The fall colors were absolutely breathtaking.
It was also great to get back to a little hunting and sport shooting. Though the grouse weren't cooperating, it was nice to get back out in the woods and walk a few of the old logging roads. Keegan decided that when we get back to Oregon, he'd like to do some more shooting with Dad!
